Testing a gag panel using the same format as an Irwin Caplan gag in the clip file. Right away, I'm seeing how much work I have left to do in terms of making these characters look consistant. I'll need to set up a style guide before too much longer!

Following along from an exercise outlined in Cartooning: Philosophy and Practice by Ivan Brunetti, the goal was to take a Beretta 92FS and try to condense it down so that it still reads like a specific type of gun without excessive detailing.

Practicing drawing Avery with his Beretta, not expecting a lot of gunplay in the comic but it will come up. I was really worried about portraying the gun correctly but it's clear from a glance I should've been more worried about the pants.

After a couple of days I think I've got a lot of Avery's personal props nailed down, where aside from his Beretta he also carries it in a chest holster and drives a 2013 Toyota Prius v.

For this Sunday's exercise, I'm seeing how my style works with the more muted palette associated with the Zorn method. I still need oodles of practice but I really like the results of actually painting in a limited color selection as opposed to just trying to color correct my way to victory.

I'm feeling really good about this piece! Not only is Avery much more suited to the earthy palette compared to Hazard, this has also been a really crucial step in figuring out how to actually paint with Clip Studio Paint instead of just using flat colors and line blending.

Getting some more practice with digital painting, this time by using underpainting to try and achieve a more robust texture as opposed to a flat color. This particular example is pretty messy but it does at least help me define that no, yellow lighting will not work like that on this guy.

Went for a walk and took down some atmittedly messy sketches of what I saw - a kid getting footage of themselves riding a Onewheel, and a mother taking a smoke break while gently pushing her stroller back and forth to simulate rocking a cradle.

I got a stroke of inspiration and decided Hazard should use a snub-nose Taurus Raging Bull as one of his weapons in the first issue, so I gave it the Brunetti treatment before re-drawing some panels.

Out of dissatisfaction with how I felt I was already starting to half-ass the comic project, I took some time and replaced a gun in one scene with a proper Taurus Raging Bull.

IT'S...BAT TALK. Since the latest video from the channel that brought us Dracula Flow, I've been obsessing about this version of Batman to the point where I realized I actually have no idea how to draw the guy. This...isn't a complete failure? But I definitely didn't push the shading hard enough.

It took me two weeks of going in circles to get this panel out, because I hadn't planned what the interior of this diner would look like at ALL. A powerful lesson that no matter how carefully you plan, something will eventually gum up the works!

Another one! I'm really glad I'm playing more with gradient maps and colors, I feel like I got something close to how Yoshi's Island looks and I am extrememly happy about it.
